Exclusive: Paul Cook to leave Wigan Athletic in next 24 hours
Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook is set to leave his role at the club in the next 24 hours, Football Insider understands.
The Latics are still reeling from the disappointment of relegation from the Championship and the financial uncertainty of administration.
A source at the DW Stadium has told Football Insider that Cook, who joined the Latics back in 2017, will be stepping down from his position on Wednesday (July 28) after three years and 155 games in charge.
Cook's impending departure comes despite the 53-year-old having two years left on his contract at the north-west outfit.
He arrived at Wigan from Portsmouth back in 2017 after the Latics were relegated from the Championship to League One.
The Liverpool-born boss led the club to an immediate return to the second-tier as league champions and oversaw an impressive FA Cup run which included the scalps of Premier League sides Bournemouth, West Ham and Manchester City.
Wigan finished 18th in their first season back in the Championship, 12 points clear of the relegation zone, while they were comfortably in mid-table when the 2019/20 season was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, at the start of July, the club confirmed they had entered administration and were handed a 12-point deduction by the EFL which was implemented at the end of the season and saw them drop from 13th to finish 23rd.
