Paul Robinson Exclusive: This Spurs player will be transformed into world beater by Mourinho

Paul Robinson has insisted Dele Alli will be transformed into a world beater by Jose Mourinho's arrival at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England goalkeeper is in no doubt that the struggling attacking midfielder will be like a new player under the Portugese.

Alli has lost his regular starting place in the Tottenham and England teams after a wretched 2019 in which the goals and matchwinning displays have dried up.

Robinson is convinced that the 23-year-old will be in "awe" of Mourinho, who can coax much improved performances from him.

"It’ll be very positive appointment for Dele because I think he’ll be a good man-manager, it's somebody that Dele will look up to," Robinson told Football Insider. "Mourinho will have a stronger line, a sterner line if you like, than Pochettino had.

"There’ll be more discipline, it will be a tighter ship. Having someone with the charisma and calibre of Mourinho, players immediately, when he walks in a room, you stand to attention, he demands a room.

"There'll be no messing about under Mourinho, the discipline will be there, the players will respect him. The good thing is when the new manager bounce comes in.

"With someone like Mourinho, these players look up to him. They watched football while he was a manager, they were watching football while he was at Chelsea, winning trophies and now someone like Alli will be in awe of him, if you like, and be world class again."

Alli has spent virtually his entire club career playing under Pochettino, who signed him from MK Dons for a bargain £5million in 2015.

He has made 194 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 55 goals and supplying 50 assists.
