Paul Robinson has echoed Chris Waddles's concerns for Serge Aurier and even suggested that he would prefer to see Tottenham start Juan Foyth at right-back.

The former Spurs and Leeds United shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that teams target the right-hand side of the Lilywhites' defence when Aurier and Davinson Sanchez play together.

Waddle, who spent four years at White Hart Lane in the 1980s, made it clear that Aurier is "not the answer" for Spurs at right-back and urged the club to sign a replacement this summer.

Aurier has started virtually every match for Tottenham since Jose Mourinho took over as manager, including all four since the restart and Monday's 1-0 win over Everton.

Robinson identified Argentinian, Foyth, as a better defensive option at full-back for Spurs.

"I have worried about Aurier's defensive capabilities for some time," he told Football Insider.

"When he plays on the right hand side with Davinson Sanchez next to him a lot of teams target them.

"Defensively I have criticised him this year but going forward he offers the team a lot.

"When Foyth came in for the Champions League games they looked a lot more secure.

"Aurier leaves a lot of space and teams target that. We saw Serge Gnabry tear him apart when they played Bayern Munich and I think that exposed him defensively."

Waddle told the Racing Post: "Something has to be done at right-back because Serge Aurier is just not the answer.

"They need a new right-back, they need to sort the centre of defence out."
