Manuel Pellegrini has cracked the whip with his underperforming West Ham players by reducing their days off, Football Insider can reveal.

The Hammers boss has taken action to arrest the slump that is threatening to derail his team's season.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider Pellegrini has cut the number of days off per week from two to one for his struggling players.

Pellegrini believes hard work on the training ground at the club's Rush Green headquarters can help get his side's season back on track following a wretched run of seven games without a win.

The Hammers have lost four of their last five league matches to leave them 16th in the table and led to some questioning the manager's position.

Some of West Ham's key players, including England international Declan Rice, are on international duty for another week but plenty of the regulars don't have commitments with their national teams.

Pellegrini is going to work his senior stars hard ahead of the return of the Premier League programme next week.

West Ham's next match is the London derby at home to fierce rivals Tottenham, who are also stuck in a rut following a similarly dreadful start to the campaign.

Pellegrini's team are 16th in the table after taking just 13 points from their opening 12 league games.

That is just one point adrift of Spurs in 14th place.
