Rangers defender Lee Hodson is in talks to sign for Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact, Football Insider sources understands.

Hodson is well down the pecking order at Rangers and is appears he is deemed surplus to requirements by new Gers boss Steven Gerrard, who has given him the green light to leave.

Rotherham United had been credited with an interest in Hodson earlier in this summer's transfer window, but a well-placed source has told Football Insider the 26-year-old has been lined up for a move to the MLS.

Montreal Impact coach Remi Garde is looking to strengthen his squad before the MLS transfer window closes on Wednesday and he is exploring a last-ditch move for Hodson.

The full-back was left out of the Europa League squad for the recent tie with Osijek to signal the way for a possible departure from Ibrox.

Hodson has struggled to make an impact at Rangers, making only 17 league appearances since joining the club two years ago from MK Dons.

The Northern Ireland international is ready to move on in search of regular first-team football with his chances seemingly limited at Rangers.

Hodson, who began his career at Watford, also had spells with Brentford, Milton Keynes Dons and Kilmarnock before signing for Rangers.
