'I really rate him' - Robinson raves over Newcastle mainstay who has 'Earned his stripes'

Paul Robinson says that Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has proven an important signing after nearly two years at the club.

The former Tottenham and England shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that he has been very impressed by what he has seen from the 30-year-old since his move to England.

Dubravka has been a mainstay for the Magpies under both Rafael Benitez and Steve Bruce, although he has come under fire at times for mistakes made between the sticks.

Robinson told Football Insider: "I think he's done really well since he's gone in there. I think he came in on loan and earned his stripes straight away, hence the reason the club signed him.

"He was an ever-present last year and he's been an ever-present this year and I think he's an important player, I really rate him as a goalkeeper, I think he's a very good goalkeeper. 

"You're allowed a mistake every now and again as a goalkeeper." 

Dubravka has not missed a single league game since making his debut against Manchester United back in February 2018, keeping 20 clean sheets in his 70 top-flight appearances.

Bruce also has Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot at his disposal on Tyneside, while Freddie Woodman has established himself as Swansea's first choice during his season-long loan.
