Paul Robinson explained that alarm bells should ring at Manchester United over goalkeeper David De Gea's ability to be one of the standout performers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O'Leary, the former England No.1 shared it was alarming that De Gea had effectively been Man United's Player of the Year for the last five years.

The 29-year-old has played 14 times across all competitions this season for the Red Devils and has conceded 15 goals, while also keeping three clean sheets.

Robinson pointed out that De Gea showed how good he was during the 3-3 draw with Sheffield United on Sunday as he made an "out of this world" double save, but implied United shouldn't have been relying on their keeper.

When asked about De Gea impressing against Sheffield United, Robinson told Football Insider: "He's brilliant in the first-half, the double save he made was absolutely out of this world."

"His agility, his shot-stopping, he's one of the best in the world.

"He's had a little bit of a dip in form, coinciding with Manchester United's dip in form, he's been player of the year for the last five years which for a start should ring alarm bells at Man United.

"But his performances as of late have been back to their best, and I thought he was outstanding.

"However we're talking about Man United away at Sheffield United, he shouldn't have to be outstanding."

De Gea has made 376 appearances for Man United since arriving at Old Trafford from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in July 2011.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper is contracted to stay with Man United until 2023 after signing a contract extension in September of this year.
