Russell Martin is fighting for his job at Southampton amid growing pressure from the club hierarchy, sources have told Football Insider.

The 38-year-old faces the sack by the end of September if he does not turn around the results after a dismal start to the season.

Some in the Southampton boardroom want Martin to adopt a more pragmatic style to churn out Premier League results.

However, Martin is adamant he won't change the playing style regardless of the results that his team suffers.

The Saints are without a win in their opening three Premier League fixtures and have yet to secure a point since their top-flight return.

Southampton have only scored one goal so far, and the club currently sits 19th in the table.

Russell Martin is under pressure to keep his Southampton job

Martin took charge of Southampton in June 2023 and signed a three-year contract with the club.

After guiding them back to the Premier League via the playoffs last season, Martin signed a three-year contract extension.

However, Southampton are willing to part ways with Martin if he’s not deemed the right man to keep them up.

Martin's men have secured one victory this season, which came in the EFL Cup second round as they defeated Cardiff 5-3.

The Saints will be back in action on 14 September against Man United when club football returns.
