Steven Alzate has agreed a deal to join Hull City on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old is currently a free agent after seeing out his contract at Brighton earlier this summer, and he has been exploring his options.

The Colombian is set to sign a two-year deal with the option of another 12 months at Hull.

The versatile midfielder typically plays box-to-box but can also play in more of an attacking or defensive role.

Even though Alzate didn’t join a new club during the summer transfer window, he’s now ready to put pen to paper on a deal to return to football with the Tigers.

The former Brighton midfielder had spent last season out on loan at Standard Liege after being deemed surplus to requirements by the Seagulls.

Alzate made 25 appearances last season for Standard Liege but is now looking to commit himself full-time to a new club.

The midfielder had made 43 appearances in the Premier League for Brighton, scoring one goal.

Even though Alzate has never played in the Championship he does have experience of English football lower down the pyramid.

He previously made 34 appearances in League Two during spells with Leyton Orient and Swindon Town.

Hull City

Hull are without a victory in the Championship this season after the opening four fixtures, but they have only lost once.

The Tigers are back in action on 13 September against Sheffield United when club football returns.
