Aberdeen, Scunthorpe and Bury are weighing up moves for recently departed Leeds United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga, Football Insider sources understand.

Diagouraga is a free agent after cancelling his contract at Leeds at the end of last month, which allows him to join another club outside the transfer window.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Scottish Premiership pacesetters Aberdeen have expressed an interest in Diagouraga as Derek McInnes looks to bolster his midfield options.

League One duo Scunthorpe and Bury are also keen to add Diagouraga's experience and guile to their side's as they look to mount bids for promotion this season.

Diagouraga joined Leeds from Championship rivals Brentford in January 2016 when Steve Evans was in charge of the West Yorkshire outfit.

The Frenchman was a key figure in the Leeds side under Evans, scoring two goals in 19 games but following the appointment of Garry Monk he found himself frozen out of the first-team picture at Elland Road.

The all-action midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town and was hoping for a fresh start under new Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen.

However, despite featuring in pre-season under Christiansen Diagouraga was not handed a squad number for the new season and the two parties agreed to cancel his contract early by mutual consent to allow him to find a new club.
