West Ham will stick by Manuel Pellegrini after the win over Southampton but are set to review his position on a match-by-match basis, Football Insider can reveal.

The Hammers hierarchy were ready to axe the Chilean had his team lost at St Mary's Stadium in last night's Premier League clash.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the board have agreed following new talks not to dismiss Pellegrini before the club's next match, against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.

But Pellegrini is not out of the woods yet, despite overseeing a second win away from home in four league games.

The London club's hierarchy want further evidence their manager can turn around what had been a dramatic slump that threatened to have them fighting a season-long relegation battle.

The board had held off from dismissing Pelegrini during the horror run of seven defeats in nine matches, ending with Monday's 3-1 defeat at home to manager-less Arsenal.

West Ham have assessed interim options for the rest of the season, including four of their former managers - David Moyes, Harry Redknapp, Sam Allardyce and Alan Pardew.

Other names on the West Ham shortlist include more long-term candidates, Eddie Howe and Sean Dyche, although the difficulty with that pair is they are currently in secure positions at established Premier League clubs.

Yet, Hammers chiefs will hold fire for now and have no plans to make an appointment before Christmas.

The club's fixtures over the festive period after the trip to Palace are home matches against Leicester City and Bournemouth.
