Expert drops 'big' Rangers claim after confirmed news
Rangers must put on a "big performance" against Greenock Morton if they want to progress to the next round of the League Cup.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said lower league sides always make things difficult for the Ibrox club but insisted they are used to the challenge of playing against defensive opposition.
The Light Blues will face Morton in the second round of the Viaplay Cup on 19 August.
Last season the Gers made it to the League Cup final where they lost out 2-1 to Glasgow rivals Celtic.
The Gers have not held the trophy since the 2010-11 season but were victorious in the Scottish Cup in the 2021-22 season for the first time in almost 15 years.
When asked what he made of the tie, Hutton told Football Insider: "I think it is a good tie for Rangers.
"It is a competition that they want to go and win so they need to start well, they are playing at Ibrox so everybody will be expecting them to progress to the next stage.
"It is always going to be difficult, these teams are going to make it hard, sit in and defend so it is up to Rangers to try and break them down.
"It is something they are going to be used to if they are going to have to put on a big performance if they want to get through."
