Aleksandar Mitrovic fluffed a load of chances for Serbia in their opening World Cup game against Costa Rica, and Newcastle fans weren't surprised.

Serbia secured all three points in a nervy but deserved win against Costa Rica, but Mitrovic could have made the win a lot smoother.

He played 90 minutes but was subbed in injury time and Newcastle fans think that his display vindicates Rafa Benitez sending him out on loan to Fulham.

Mitrovic has always enjoyed a good relationship with Newcastle fans, who loved his passion and commitment, but he was never given much of a chance at St James' Park.

However, he's struggled for goals and he showed again today that he's as likely to miss a gilt-edged chance as bury it.

He's a regular starter for Serbia but fell over in the box today on a couple of occasions when it seemed easier to score.
