Fans are unimpressed with Joey Barton on Twitter after the Rangers star was given a three-week suspension by the Scottish giants.

The former Burnley man had originally been told not to report for training until Monday, following a spat with teammate Andy Halliday on the training ground.

It's another controversial moment in Barton's colourful career, which has included serving prison time for assault and a the Premier League's second biggest ban of 12 matches for his actions following a red card against Manchester City.

The suspension has come of no surprise to Rangers fans, who are unhappy that Barton has let emotion cloud his judgement once again.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

One fan pointed out that Barton could be trying to be clever, as he prepares to launch his new book entitled "No Nonsense" in three days.

Former Manchester City and Newcastle midfielder Barton moved to Glasgow this summer in a surprise move after winning the Burnley player of the year award for the last campaign and it had looked like the one-time England international had poured water over a fiery career.

However, his future at the club may now be cast in doubt.
