Former Whites boss Steve Evans has backed Leeds to win their third straight game when they face Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

The Scot, who was popular with fans while managing Leeds last season, has backed the club to build on their win against rivals Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

“Garry’s got a great win at Hillsborough," he told Yorkshire Radio. "People can say he was going to go afterwards if he’d lost but he got the win. He’s on the march.

“He’ll be looking forward to Forest. I watched Forest on Saturday. I would be thinking those three points are there.

“I think there’s a big possibility for the Leeds faithful to go into the international break on the back of three wins.”

Leeds began their season poorly with a 3-0 away defeat against QPR on the opening day, before sneaking past Fleetwood on penalties in the EFL Cup and losing again to Birmingham 2-1 at Elland Road.

They picked up their first point of the season thanks to a late Marcus Antonsson strike against Fulham last Tuesday and finally won a game in 90 minutes when they beat local rivals Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough, with goals from Antonsson and Chris Wood.

They consolidated that victory with a 1-0 win over Luton in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, with academy player Tyler Denton getting the important strike.

Monk has had a busy transfer window as he looks to work with owner Massimo Cellino to get Leeds back to the Premier League.

There have been 10 new arrivals, including international players Pontus Jansson, Liam Bridcutt, Rob Green and Pablo Hernandez.

Bridcutt only arrived at the club last week but spent the second half of last season on loan from Sunderland and slotted straight into their midfield for the win against Wednesday.
