Noel Whelan has claimed Frank Lampard will have "seen enough" from members of his Everton squad ahead of a "sustainable" summer rebuild.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted players deemed surplus to requirements by the 43-year-old will be "out the door very quickly" ahead of the former Chelsea manager's first pre-season with the Toffees.

As quoted by The Guardian (20 May), Lampard revealed he will be "starting from zero" with his squad after narrowly avoiding relegation during the 2021-22 campaign.

The Goodison chief insisted he has been "working behind the scenes" with director of football Kevin Thelwell - with whom he claims he has a "great relationship".

Football Insider has revealed (23 May) that Everton have offered a £120,000-a-week contract to James Tarkowski - who is out of contract at relegated Burnley next month.

Whelan insisted the Toffees board could "open the chequebook yet again" ahead of a summer rebuild under Lampard.

“First and foremost, Frank needs a full pre-season with his squad,” he told Football Insider's Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s come into a club in turmoil. They’ve had a lot of managers and wasted a lot of money over the years, so he needs to assess that squad thoroughly.

“In terms of players, I’m sure he will have seen enough from a few. They will be out the door very quickly.

“I think they’ve had a real scare this season. The board could open up the chequebook yet again and rebuild the side a bit more sustainably.

“There’s a lot of hard work ahead.

"If they can sort out these exits quickly, that will open the door for Frank to start working with the squad he wants.”
