Gary Lineker hailed Liverpool for "coming back from the dead" on an extraordinary night at Anfield as they came from 3-1 down to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-3.

The Merseysiders went 2-0 down after nine minutes and then appeared dead and buried after 57 minutes when Marcos Reus put Dortmund 3-1 ahead on the night and 4-2 on aggregate with the crucial away goal advantage.

Requiring three goals to win a thrilling quarter-final tie, goals from Philippe Coutinho, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren sealed won of the greatest comebacks in European football history.

The victory booked Liverpool's passage into the semi-finals of the Europa League and kept alive the club's hopes of winning silverware this season.

Match of the Day host Lineker was among those who took to  Twitter to praise Liverpool's amazing comeback.

Liverpool, Shakhtar Donetsk and Villarreal are through to the semi-finals, while Sevilla and Athletic head into extra time in the other quarter-final clash.
