Rangers manager Steven Gerrard could stay at Ibrox for another five years, according to Paul Robinson.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs goalkeeper said that his former England teammate, Gerrard, is "putting the foundations in place to ensure that the club is successful for a number of years."

The Light Blues confirmed the signings of Jack Simpson, 24, from Bournemouth and Scott Wright, 23, from Aberdeen on deadline day after initial pre-contracts were fast-forwarded into immediate agreements.

Nnamdi Ofoborh, 21, also joined on a four-year deal but he will not move to Ibrox until the expiration of his contract at his current club Bournemouth in June.

Gerrard still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Ibrox having put pen to paper on new terms in December 2019.

When asked if the winter window's business hinted towards a long stay in Glasgow for Gerrard, his former England teammate Robinson told Football Insider:

"From a Rangers point of view you would like to think that Gerrard has signed these players with a view to managing them over the next few years.

"When a manager starts looking at young players like that, he is clearly building for the future. He is putting the foundations in place to ensure that the club is successful for a number of years.

"Whether Steven stays for two, three, four or five more years, which could happen, he has certainly got the club's best interests at heart. He is putting great foundations in."
