Jordan Jones will be offloaded by Rangers at the first opportunity after losing the trust of Steven Gerrard.

That is according to ex-Aberdeen and Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Northern Ireland international following his lockdown breach.

Asked by Football Insider whether he is surprised that Gerrard is willing to sell Jones, Whelan said: "There's one thing that Steven Gerrard will not tolerate, and that is people breaking rules. He runs the club.

"The biggest word in any job, in any relationship between manager and player is trust. If you break that trust then it's going to be very difficult to rebuild.

"He had strict rules that you needed to abide by, he's gone behind the manager, he's disrespected the club with a stupid act which could hamper the other players around them.

"He has put everybody in danger.

"Steven will be offloading him, he won't want people with that kind of character. I think it's the right thing to do.

"You can't be going around thinking you can do whatever you like. I don't think getting rid of him is the biggest thing in the world, I would get shot straight away."

Jones and Edmundson have also been hit with Scottish Football Association charges and they will go in front of a Hampden disciplinary hearing on 19 November.

Rangers are also leading their own internal investigation that could add to a potential ban and fine.
