Graham Roberts claimed on Twitter that Heung-Min Son and Victor Wanyama were the two key players in Tottenham's 1-0 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow.

Mauricio Pochettino's side ignited their campaign in Europe's elite competition on Tuesday night with a notable win in Russia.

Son continued his excellent form by scoring the decisive goal in the second half to provide lift-off to the Londoners' Champions League season after they lost their group stage opener against Monaco a fortnight ago.

The South Korean broke the deadlock after 71 minutes with his fifth goal from just five matches this season to extend his purple patch of form.

Spurs also secured a clean sheet in a tricky fixture, as a new-look back four of Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Ben Davies were well protected by Victor Wanyama and Dele Alli.

Former Tottenham defender Roberts took to his personal Twitter account to pay tribute to the performances of Wanyama and Son in the aftermath of the win.

He hailed the "absolutely excellent" midfield anchorman and claimed his attacking teammate Son was "on fire".

Son came close to leaving Tottenham last month after a mixed debut season in which he scored eight goals from 40 matches in all competitions.

He has made a huge impact in recent weeks and his efforts have been especially noteworthy given the absences of a number of regulars.

Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose missed the trip to Moscow due to injury, while Kyle Walker was rested and left on the bench.
