'Grasped his chance' - Hutton in awe of Rangers player who silenced doubters v Aberdeen
Alan Hutton raved about Rangers attacker Greg Stewart after his performance in the 5-0 victory over Aberdeen on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O'Leary, the ex-Gers defender shared that he thought Stewart has had to wait a long time to get an opportunity at Ibrox but that he grasped his chance to shine against Aberdeen.
Stewart was deployed as an attacking midfielder against his former side on Saturday and managed to score his first goal for the Light Blues in the process.
Hutton explained that he thought Stewart likely had a point to prove against Aberdeen with them being one of his old clubs and added that he was glad that he managed to standout for all the right reasons.
When asked if Stewart silenced the doubters against Aberdeen, Hutton told Football Insider: "Yeah, he did.
"He was very good to be honest, there's a few boys out injured and stuff, Aribo and Kent are out, so he has come in and took his opportunity.
"I think he has had to wait a long time but the Rangers fans all know how good he is but it was a case of him getting an opportunity to play in one of the games.
"And I really think he has grasped his chance with both hands and obviously playing against one of his old clubs...he probably had a point to prove.
"So yeah he definitely stood up and grabbed his opportunity, and I'm actually glad for him as it's been difficult over the last few months so obviously to come into the team and play so well, it's great for him."
Stewart arrived at Ibrox in the summer from Birmingham City and has so far made eight appearances for the club across all competitions.
The 29-year-old has scored once and racked up three assists in the process but has only completed 90minutes on two occasions.
