Hackett: 'I'm often critical of John Moss' but key Wolves decision was 'outstanding'
Keith Hackett has praised referee John Moss for playing an "excellent" advantage to Wolves which led to them securing a 1-0 victory over Fulham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-FIFA and Premier League referee admitted he is "often critical" of Moss but hailed his display at Craven Cottage on Friday night.
In the dying stages, Wolves' Morgan Gibbs-White was fouled by Fulham midfielder Mario Lemina.
However, Fabio Silva picked up the loose ball as Moss played advantage and he played in Adama Traore.
The winger produced an extraordinary finish from a difficult angle to net his first Premier League goal since 2019.
The game threatened to be defined by a previous decision when Wolves had a goal ruled out for a marginal offside against Daniel Podence.
He was played in behind by Nelson Semedo before his cross was headed in by Willian Jose.
Podence was then judged to have been offside by an armpit and the goal was chalked off.
Fortunately for Wolves, they scored a late winner that meant the disallowed goal did not cost them.
“That was an excellent piece of refereeing,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“I’m often critical of John Moss but on this occasion, he used his skill and experience.
“It’s good when an advantage is played and there’s an outcome of that nature.
“Recognition that it’s a good piece of refereeing is good to highlight.”
The result leaves Wolves in 12th and Fulham facing the threat of relegation as they run out of opportunities to secure their Premier League status.
They are now six points behind 17th place Newcastle United after their 2-1 win over Burnley on Saturday. Fulham have also played one game more than the Magpies.
