Harry Kane revealed his delight as Tottenham bounced back from their midweek woe to thump Sunderland 4-1 in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

A Christian Eriksen double and a Mousa Dembele strike were supplemented by Kane's late penalty to clinch three points for Spurs and consolidate their place in the top four.

Ahead of the rest of the weekend league fixtures, the north Londoners pulled four points away from fifth-placed West Ham and narrowed the gap on Manchester City in third to one point.

Kane told BT Sport afterwards: "After our midweek defeat, you have to bounce back as soon as possible in the Premier League and we've done that. To win 4-1 is a great victory.

"We were trying to play too much around their area instead of getting shots off [earlier on]. The second half was a solid performance."

Asked about where the win left Tottenham's title challenge, Kane said: "There is a long way to go. It is a bit of a cliche, I know. We are doing well at the moment and there is a long way until May."

Spurs' win was much-needed as they had take just a single point from their previous two league matches, a 1-1 draw at Everton and Wednesday night's 1-0 defeat to Leicester.

Mauricio Pochettino's team play Leicester for the third time in 10 days on Wednesday when they travel to the King Power Stadium for their FA Cup replay.
