Harry Redknapp hits out at scumbags after Telegraph revelations

Harry Redknapp has hit back at undercover reporters after it was claimed that he had broken FA regulations by not reporting suspicious betting activity on a match he was involved in.

It was claimed in the Telegraph that manager Redknapp knew his players had bet on themselves in a match – against FA regulations – and had not reported it.

Talking on BT Sport, as quoted in The Sun, Redknapp hit back at the Telegraph sting and claimed the allegations against him were petty and the reporters were "scumbags".

"It’s a nonsense," said Redknapp. "If that’s the best they could get out of three hours of sitting with me and trying to stitch me up, it’s sad. The worst part is that when the bill came up, the other four scumbags got up and left me with the bill.

“They never had a bet anyway. No-one had a bet. Impossible. Anyone who’s watching this who understands betting odds knows that a team on the top playing a team that’s relegated, it’s not a betting proposition. You can’t bet on that. It’s ridiculous.”

The team and match in question hasn't been revealed and there is no suggestion of criminality on Redknapps's part.

However, the football world is bracing itself for more revelations from the Telegraph, which has already claimed two scalps from its investigation.

Sam Allardyce lost his job in charge of the England team, while Tommy Wright was also sacked as Barnsley manager for accepting a £5k bung.
