'Here we go again...This isn't normal' - Exclusive: Hutton reacts to Leeds setback

Alan Hutton admits he is concerned about the mental strength of the Leeds United squad in their push for promotion this season.

The former Aston Villa and Scotland ace, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that, from the outside looking in, there are fears about the Whites' ability to see the job out.

Leeds lost their first game back from lockdown on Sunday afternoon, with their trip to Cardiff ending in a 2-0 defeat to Neil Harris' men.

Having seen the Whites suffer a drastic dip in form last season, which resulted in them missing out on automatic promotion and crashing out of the play-offs, Hutton believes Marcelo Bielsa's men will be stronger as a result in the final games of the season.

Asked if he was worried about Leeds' mental strength, Hutton told Football Insider: "Yeah. I think it's always there, for any outsider looking in, it's always going to be the same: 'Oh, here we go again, it's happening.'

"I think they're very strong this year, they've gone through all these different experiences in previous seasons and it will make them better, make them stronger going forward.

"Yes, it's a blip, but this isn't normal for anybody this situation, coming back into this, so everybody's going to find it difficult and find their own feet as quickly as possible.

"I don't see it as being a massive problem, I think we'll know more in the next game or two, but I think they've got more than enough to finish the season on top."

Leeds currently sit second in the Championship table, behind table-toppers West Brom on goal difference alone.

The Whites' next game sees them take on Fulham at Elland Road, with the Cottagers seven points off Bielsa's men in third.
