'His Legs Have Gone' - Exclusive: Celtic backed to bin 28-yr-old in January by pundit
Shane Duffy is "doing more harm than good" at Celtic this season and should return to Brighton when the transfer window reopens on Friday.
That is the view of Parkhead legend Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 28-year-old's future ahead of the January transfer window.
Duffy was an unused substitute in yesterday's 3-0 win at Hamilton having missed the visit of Ross County three days early due to injury.
The summer loan signing from Brighton has struggled this season despite scoring twice and conceding just once in his first two appearances for the club.
Football Insider understands that Celtic agreed to pay Brighton £2.5million for the defender's services in September.
McAvennie urged club chiefs to send the Republic of Ireland international back to England to free up funds for another defensive signing.
"I think Duffy should go back in January," he told Football Insider.
"He has not hit the ground running. It is unfortunate, I was hoping for somebody to come up and lead that defence but he is doing more harm than good.
"I would send him back and get somebody else in. The club is paying good money for him. They need to go out and sign a player who can sort out that defence.
"Ajer and Jullien do not like the physical side and I think that is why they brought Duffy in but I think his legs have gone."
