Alan Hutton claimed Mauricio Pochettino may have to soon axe Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen over his poor form.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O'Leary, the ex-Spurs full-back shared that while he would personally keep playing Eriksen as he knows what he is capable of, a time could soon be coming where Pochettino is going to have to say enough is enough.

Hutton admitted that he didn't think the 27-year-old had looked the same player this season and suggested the midfielder was still struggling to focus after the summer speculation about his future.

The former Spurs defender stated that if Eriksen continues to keep not hitting form and playing like he has a weight on his shoulders then Pochettino simply has to drop him from his starting line-ups.

When asked if it's time Eriksen should be axed over his poor form, Hutton told Football Insider: "For me personally, I just want to keep playing him as I know what he can bring to the team but there also comes a stage where you have to say you cannot keep playing him if he is not hitting form at all.

"I mean maybe that stage is coming, it looks like he is playing with a weight on his shoulder, he just doesn't look the same, his head has obviously been turned in the summer and he's just struggling to put that to one side and continue playing.

"So I think there is going to come a time where Pochettino is going to say enough is enough and it could be coming."

Eriksen has played 11 times across all competitions for Tottenham this season and has only racked up one assist as well as one goal.

The Danish international has started five matches on the bench so far, but Pochettino has always opted to bring him on.
