Jordan Jones will not be given another chance at Rangers despite impressing on loan at Sunderland, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 26-year-old was playing for a future away from Ibrox between now and the end of the season.

Jones, who joined League One Sunderland in January, has started to establish himself as a regular among Lee Johnson's side.

He has scored twice and contributed a further three assists in nine appearances so far.

His last three league outings have all come among the starting XI as he starts to build up his form and fitness.

Hutton admitted he thinks Rangers have moved on from Jones, despite impressing on Wearside.

Asked if he thought the winger could redeem himself at Ibrox, Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "I'm not sure he can. It's one of those ones where he had opportunities at Rangers. Gerrard put him in and sometimes we would see the best of him but not enough.

"Obviously the covid issues, hampered by injuries, I'm not going to say I'm on the fence. I believe the time's passed. He's went down, he's moved on, he's playing well at a decent level and scoring goals.

"I just feel his time that Rangers, he's had enough opportunities, it's not quite worked out. The player has to think of himself as well, he obviously wasn't happy when he was there."

Jones was allowed to leave Rangers after making just four appearances during the first half of the campaign.

His season was marred by a breach of lockdown rules which saw him suspended by both the club and the SPFL.
