Alan Hutton has urged prospective new Tottenham chief Fabio Paratici to copy Aston Villa in the transfer market this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland defender suggested Spurs should look to sign domestic talent over foreign players.

The former Juventus chief left the Italian giants in May after 11 years in various executive roles.

Hutton admitted he feared Paratici could focus on overseas signings ahead of next season.

He suggested the new Spurs man should look at his counterparts at Aston Villa, Johan Lange and Dean Smith, for inspiration.

Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "He'll have a good idea of that foreign market but the only question I would ask is how well does he know it over here? I'm sure he will.

"If you look at the likes of Dean Smith and Johan Lange and what they're doing at Aston Villa. They're getting all the talented young players from Britain to try and build a team and it's working.

"I've been in squads where a lot of foreigners come in and it's very difficult to get down and get everybody together and focused on the job ahead. It'll be interesting to see how that dynamic works."

Of Tottenham's eight signings last summer, half were from Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

Only Sergio Reguilon, Carlos Vinicius and Joe Rodon had no previous Premier League experience.
