Trent Alexander-Arnold is close to finalising his Real Madrid move but Ibrahima Konate is also out of contract at Liverpool in just over a year.

The Frenchman, 25, has also been linked with Los Blancos - who have pounced on out-of-contract players in recent years.

But Everton's former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed Liverpool fans have "shot themselves in the foot" with their treatment of Alexander-Arnold.

Konate will be unhappy with Alexander-Arnold treatment, says Wyness

Alexander-Arnold was met with a chorus of boos as he stepped on the pitch against Arsenal on Sunday (11 May) - his first appearance since announcing he will exit the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed the right-back's treatment may have made Konate's mind up on a potential Real Madrid switch.

He has been with Liverpool since 2021 after joining from RB Leipzig for around £36million.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Konate could be next.

“It’ll be up to the player and his agent. If he won’t sign a contract, there’s not much Liverpool can do.

“They’ll only be prepared to offer him so much.

“I think Konate will have seen what happened with Trent, and he won’t have been very happy.

“These things matter to players, to a degree.

“That may have made his mind up to go to Madrid for himself and his career, and I think that’s what he will do.

“I wouldn’t be surprised. The fans are reading the Spanish media, and I would not be surprised. I think the Liverpool fans have shot themselves in the foot.”

Bryan Mbeumo update from Liverpool

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (6 May) that Liverpool have cooled their interest in Brentford star man Bryan Mbeumo.

With Mohamed Salah committed for two more years it is believed Liverpool‘s interest in Mbeumo is waning.

The Reds had lined up a move for the £60million-rated Bees forward, who is attracting interest across the Premier League.
