Alan Hutton claimed that Steven Gerrard is unconvinced by Rangers attacker Sheyi Ojo based on the 22-year-old's playing time starting to dry up.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O'Leary, the former Gers right-back stated that based on Ojo being in and out of the team, then it's clear he hasn't done enough to convince Gerrard of his ability.

Ojo has played 27 times across all competitions this season, regularly featuring for the Gers, but was an unused substitute in the 1-0 loss to Celtic on Sunday.

Hutton defended Ojo as he insisted that the winger was a very good player and that all he lacked was a little bit of consistency.

When asked about Ojo being snubbed against Celtic, Hutton told Football Insider: "To be honest I'm not surprised as it's the one position up for grabs.

"There are a few people vying for that front-right position, in flashes he has shown that he is a very good player.

"The thing with him is, he isn't consistent enough for me and probably for Gerrard as it is a position he rotates.

"Ojo is in then he is out, Stewart can play there, Jones can too but he is injured, so that tells me he isn't totally convinced.

"I think he is a very good player but he needs to be more consistent."

Ojo has managed to rack up five goals and seven assists since arriving at Ibrox on loan from Liverpool in the summer.

The former England U-21 international has previously been loaned out by the Reds numerous times with him also having spells at the likes of Fulham, Wolves and Stade Reims.
