'I'm sure there'll be a Release Clause' - Exclusive: Whelan reacts to big Wolves development
Noel Whelan is adamant that Wolves attacker Adama Traore will have a release clause inserted into his soon-to-be agreed new contract.
The former Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that a new and improved deal will keep the 24-year-old "happy and focused" after speculation over his future earlier this year.
Football Insider understands that the winger has agreed a new four-year deal in principle which will see his wages rise to £100,000-a-week.
Traore still has three years remaining on his current contract at Molineux, having penned a five-year agreement when he joined from Middlesbrough in 2018.
This site revealed that in April that Liverpool shortlisted Traore as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane after his remarkable development last season.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the contract update, Whelan said:
"If the big clubs really wanted him they would have stumped up the money, no matter what it would have cost to get him.
"He is a Wolves player and a very important player to their setup.
"He will get a new contact and I am sure there will be a clause in that contract that stipulates an amount that a potential suitor would have to pay to buy him.
"It will be a better contract, with more money and bonuses involved. That will keep Traore happy and focused. It is important that he continues to progress."
