Sources: Lambert in Friday showdown talks after Ipswich dressing room mutiny
Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert is fighting to save his job after showdown talks with club owner Marcus Evans on Friday, Football Insider can reveal.
The under-fire Lambert had suggested he was due to have a face-to-face meeting with Evans next weeks.
But an Ipswich source has told Football Insider that discussion was brought forward to Friday amid growing pressure on Lambert over his job.
The Scot has faced calls from fans and ex-players for him to be sacked after a wretched run of results threaten to end the team's promotion hopes.
Ipswich's goalless draw against Northampton Town in midweek leaves them 11th in League One and four points off Sunderland in sixth place.
They have won just twice in nine matches and a promising start to the campaign has completely fizzled out.
Football Insider revealed last month that there is unrest in the dressing room and relationships between Lambert and some of the senior players are fractured.
Subsequent events have done little to repair the damage and the discord in the dressing room is matched by that off it.
Even the local newspaper has called for Lambert to be sacked in order to save the team's promotion challenge.
The final call will be made by Evans, who bought Ipswich in 2007 and has regularly faced criticism for not investing enough on players.
The former Aston Villa, Norwich City and Wolves boss was appointed at Portman Road in October 2018, shortly after the dismissal of Paul Hurst.
Lambert was unable to stop them getting relegated from the Championship that season and Ipswich Town are now facing a third consecutive campaign in League One.
