'It's a lot of money' - Exclusive: Hutton reacts as Ornstein reports possible Villa transfer twist

Alan Hutton admits he would not mind if West Ham beat Aston Villa to the signing Brentford star Said Benrahma ahead of Friday's deadline.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa and Scotland defender believes his old side are already well-stocked out wide and questions where the Algeria international would fit in under Dean Smith.

The Athletic's David Ornstein has reported that Villa are waiting in the wings in case West Ham's £30million move for the 25-year-old falls through.

As revealed by Football Insider, Villa are in the market for a new attacker and are preparing a bid for Bournemouth's Josh King before the domestic window closes on Friday.

Hutton, who has already urged the Villans to push the boat out for the Cherries star, believes that Benrahma would be too much money for a player Smith does not need.

Hutton told Football Insider: "It's a lot of money and I just think Aston Villa are quite heavily loaded in those areas in my opinion. Is he going to play every week, does he come straight in every week? I'm not sure.

"I just think with the likes of Josh King, he's a better option, he is that focal point, he can be that number nine but he plays other options as well. He's not as expensive, I just think he'd be a better option.

"Benrahma's a fantastic player but if they miss out on that, it's one I wouldn't be too bothered about, even though he's a great player."

Benrahma, who was signed for Brentford by Villa boss Smith, has scored 30 times in 94 appearances for the Bees to date.

He is yet to get off the mark in the Championship this season but did net twice against Fulham in the League Cup.
