West Ham's record signing Andre Ayew will be sidelined for four months with a thigh problem, according to Jack Sullivan.

The son of joint owner David Sullivan has reported on his personal Twitter account about the striker's injury after he was injured during his competitive debut for the Hammers against Chelsea on Monday.

Ayew started the 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge but pulled up in the first half with a thigh problem and was immediately substituted.

Sullivan junior, who has established a reputation for breaking West Ham news shortly before they appear on the club's official channels, reported that the forward will be sidelined until around mid-December.

It will be a huge blow for West Ham just a week after the 26-year-old's £20.5million transfer from Swansea that smashed the club's transfer record.

The Hammers prised the Ghana international from their fellow Premier League club after an exhaustive search to find a new forward.
