Alan Hutton has tipped Joe Hart to "steady the ship" at Celtic after joining from Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender insisted the 34-year-old is exactly what the Bhoys need to sort out their defensive woes.

As confirmed on Tuesday (3rd August), Hart has joined Celtic on a three-year deal.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (August 2nd) how the two-time Premier League winner has become the Scottish side's top earner.

A Celtic source told Football Insider the contract is thought to be around £35,000-a-week but his move will see him take a salary drop.

Hutton suggested Hart's leadership would help Celtic settle things at Parkhead and alleviate the pressure on the squad, and his pay cut demonstrates his desire.

Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: “Hart has played at a very high level.

"He’s obviously got that desire to play and fight for his place, or he wouldn’t leave Tottenham. He would just sit it out for another year or so.

"Let’s not forget he’s 34-years-old so he has plenty of time in his career for a goalkeeper. We’re talking about a former England and Manchester City number one.

“That’s the type of guy you would need in a young back four, someone’s who’s commanding and will talk to the back four.

"These are the guys you need to bring in because it’s a very difficult moment for Celtic with the pressure already building. I think you need these guys to come in and steady the ship."

Celtic have suffered a disappointing start to new the season.

Celtic

They lost to Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifiers and Hearts in their Premiership opener.

Hart has picked up 75 caps for England and has 340 Premier League appearances under his belt.
