Crystal Palace have confirmed co-owner John Textor has stepped down from his role as a director, sources have told Football Insider

A Companies House submission on 30 June revealed Textor’s position on the board has now been officially terminated at Selhurst Park.

The American billionaire’s Eagle Football Holdings purchased shares in the Premier League side in 2021 after initially investing £87.5million into the club.

However, Textor agreed to sell his Palace stake to Woody Johnson on 23 June, with the deal believed to be worth around £190million.

The 59-year-old has moved to sell his shares in a bid to allow Oliver Glasner’s side to play in the Europa League next season.

Textor’s ownership of Lyon has presented a stumbling block after the French side also qualified for the Europa League, with Uefa’s rules prohibiting clubs controlled by the same owners or directors from competing in the same European competition.

The board at Selhurst Park now consists of chairman Steve Parish and co-owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer following Textor’s departure.

Woody Johnson could face Crystal Palace takeover delay

Palace are anxiously waiting to hear whether they will be permitted to play in the Europa League next season.

Glasner’s side qualified for the competition after beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May.

However, Lyon’s relegation to Ligue 2 following their financial issues has added a further complication to the situation.

Uefa has postponed a decision on whether to allow Palace to play in the Europa League until after Lyon’s domestic appeal against their relegation.

Meanwhile, finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Johnson’s takeover of Palace could take three months to receive Premier League approval.

The 78-year-old, who owns the New York Jets, isn’t expected to face any issues passing the owners’ and directors’ test after formerly operating as the US ambassador to the UK between 2017 and 2021.

Marc Guehi has 'concerns' over Liverpool move

In terms of on-field matters, Selhurst Park chiefs are weighing up whether or not to sell Marc Guehi this summer.

Football Insider revealed on 26 June Guehi isn’t rushing to make a decision on a move away from Palace amid “concerns” over joining Liverpool.

The 24-year-old centre-back has now entered into the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park.

However, the England international will weigh up a move to Liverpool carefully, with Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk likely to initially be ahead of him in the pecking order at Anfield.
