Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has backed Celtic star Josip Juranovic to be a regular starter at any team.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker backed new signing Alistair Johnston to improve at Parkhead.

According to the Scottish Sun (7 December), Atletico Madrid sent scouts to watch the 27-year-old in his World Cup game for Croatia against Brazil.

The right-back has played every game for the national team and helped them secure a place in the semi-finals with an impressive display against tournament favourites Brazil.

The Glasgow giants have attempted to agree a new contract with the defender but talks have collapsed in recent weeks.

The Croatian's contract expires in 2026 but is now keen to listen to offers from elite clubs.

When asked if Juranovic would make it into the first team at Atletico, McAvennie told Football Insider: "Anywhere he goes he will be a first team player, he is that good.

"There is obviously something in the wind because they have just bought Johnston. He got caught a few times for Canada but that is to be expected.

"When you play for Canada you are under the cosh all the time, he will not be at Celtic. So he will have time to become a good player.

"I think Juranovic can defend a bit better than him. As a defender Juranovic is the best."

Celtic

On 3 December, Celtic confirmed the signing of Alistair Johnston from CF Montreal.

The right-back put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Glasgow club.
