Josko Gvardiol could be taking 'big risk' by joining Man City after journalist's update - pundit
Frank McAvennie has claimed joining Man City would be a "big risk" for Josko Gvardiol.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Gvardiol will need assurances from Pep Guardiola that he will get enough game time before committing to a move.
According to journalist Alfredo Pedalled (14 December), the Sky Blues are lining up a club-record £110million bid for the 20-year-old.
Guardiola already has numerous options at centre-back in the form of fellow World Cup stars Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji.
Gvardiol enjoyed an impressive World Cup, helping his side claim third place in the tournament as well as eliminating tournament favourites Brazil.
The defender's RB Leipzig contract expires in 2027 after joining from Dinamo Zagreb last year.
He has already made 19 appearances for Leipzig across all competitions this season.
But McAvennie insisted Gvardiol will not get nearly as much game time at the Etihad.
"He might think he can go in there and take a place from someone and make the jersey his own," he told Football Insider.
"There is nothing wrong with that but It is a risk. It is a big risk because it could cause his career to go backwards.
"Every day he will be training with the best manager but then you are not getting a game. I would want assurances from Pep that I am going to get enough game time."
