Julen Lopetegui will be given one last chance to save his job as West Ham manager when they face his former club Wolves, Fabrizio Romano has reported.

The Spaniard only took over the Hammers in the summer when he replaced David Moyes, but has endured a tough start to life in London.

A 3-1 defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday (3 December) has left the club 14th in the Premier League table with just 15 points from 14 games, piling the pressure on Lopetegui.

For now though, Romano states that it has been "confirmed" Lopetegui will still be in charge of the club when they host Wolves at The London Stadium on Monday night (9 December).

Even so, it is noted that the Spaniard's position with the club is under "serious pressure", with other candidates being considered for the role.

Little more than a stay of execution for Julen Lopetegui at West Ham

Football Insider Opinion

It is hard to see this being anything other than something that delays the inevitable when it comes to the future of the Spaniard at the London Stadium.

When managers are being considered for your role as keenly as they are by the Hammers, it seems they have already decided they will be cutting ties with you sooner rather than later.

Lopetegui may feel that the fact West Ham are next up against a Wolves side in even worse form than them, may give him a chance to salvage something here.

But after that, his side face some tricky assignments against the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton, Liverpool and Man City in their next run of games.

With the pressure he is already under amid their poor form, it is hard to imagine West Ham getting enough points from those games to keep the Spaniard in a job.

It may therefore be the case that Lopetegui will not be at the London Stadium for much longer, regardless of what the result is against Wolves next time out.
