Jurgen Klopp is now the clear favourite to become the next Real Madrid manager amid uncertainty around Xabi Alonso's position in charge.

Klopp won everything there was to win in his nearly nine years at Liverpool, as he transformed the club's fortunes and took them back to challenging for silverware at the highest level.

The German departed Anfield in the summer of 2024 after revealing that he was running out of energy, with the club choosing Arne Slot as his successor.

He has since been appointed as Red Bull's Head of Global Football as he takes time out of management, but rumours have emerged that Klopp could return to Liverpool as they falter under Slot this season.

It remains to be seen which team he will manage next, but the odds are currently shortening for him to be the next Real Madrid boss as the pressure on Alonso increases.

Klopp is now the clear favourite to be the next Madrid manager amid Alonso uncertainty

Former Liverpool star Alonso became Madrid's new boss ahead of this season after doing a stellar job in his three years as Bayer Leverkusen manager.

The Spanish giants have struggled for form at times this season, however, particularly by their supremely high standards, and currently sit four points behind Barcelona in second place in La Liga.

Alonso could be facing the Madrid sack soon, despite their players continuously backing him in the media, with Klopp the favourite to succeed him at the Bernabeu if a decision is made.

The 58-year-old is priced at evens with a particular bookmaker to be the next Los Blancos boss, with former manager and player Zinedine Zidane in second at 4/1, while Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola are both up next at 12/1 respectively.

Alonso could be the next Liverpool boss after potential Madrid sack

Alonso led Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning season and DFB Pokal triumph in 2023-24, so clearly has what it takes to succeed as a manager at the highest level.

He is currently under fire at Madrid for failing to get the best out of the world-class talents he has at his disposal, but could find himself managing in the Premier League before long if the stars align.

Liverpool boss Slot is under pressure himself as it stands, with the club sat seventh in the Premier League, and he could be relieved of his duties soon if results consistently start going against them once more.

The bookmaker's latest odds have Alonso as the favourite to be the next Reds manager, priced at 10/3, while Klopp is incidentally in second and priced at 5/1.

A familiar theme continues to emerge with the next apparent contenders, as Glasner and Iraola both make up the top four once more at 4/1 and 6/1 respectively.
