Kieran Maguire: Celtic have just exposed glaring boardroom problem after announcement
Celtic have exposed the disconnect between the board and the fans with a line in their annual report, according to Keiran Maguire.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the football finance expert delivered his verdict after Celtic described finishing second in the Scottish Premiership as an "operation highlight".
The Hoops released the announcement of results for the year ending 30 June 2021 earlier this week (September 21).
Its four "operation highlights" were described as their league position, winning the 2019/20 Scottish Cup, qualifying for the Europa League group stages and playing 28 games at Celtic Park.
Asked by Football Insider's Adam Williams whether that was indicative of a disconnect between Celtic's board and the fans, Maguire said: "Yes, I think for any Celtic fan there are two positions in the Scottish Premiership, there's first and then there's nowhere.
"Finishing above Aberdeen, Hibs and so on is not an issue, as far as they are concerned.
"Also, if you take a look at their finances, you've only got to compare their income and wage bill. I think Aberdeen's wage bill is the third highest in Scottish football at £11million. If you compare that to Celtic's...
"Finishing above the other clubs in the Scottish Premiership is a non-issue, it's a given.
"I suspect that very few Celtic fans will view that as a highlight."
Also in their annual results, Celtic revealed revenue had decreased by 13.4 per cent to £60.8million.
The club made a pre-tax loss of £11.5million after making £100,000 profit in the previous year.
