Keith Hackett believes that Aston Villa should have been awarded a penalty against Liverpool on Saturday (9 November) after Pau Torres appeared to be pulled down in the box.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-FIFA and Premier League official believes it was an “awful decision” not to give Villa a penalty for the incident.

Torres appeared to be pulled down inside the box by Conor Bradley in the second half when the score was just 1-0, but VAR determined that it wasn’t a penalty and opted not to send David Coote to the screen.

Unai Emery’s side lost the game 2-0 after goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, leading to them sinking to ninth in the Premier League table.

Villa also felt aggrieved by another penalty incident as Ollie Watkins felt he was fouled inside the box, but Hackett told Football Insider that it was an “act of simulation.”
