Keith Wyness: Liverpool & co want 'serious sanction' for 'cheating' Man City
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Premier League clubs will push for a "serious sanction" if Man City are found guilty of "cheating".
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted clubs will be "very angry" if City manage to escape punishment through a "technicality", just as Leicester did in their Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) case.
Man City's case against the Premier League over 115 alleged breaches of financial rules got underway on Monday (16 September) in London.
The English champions are accused of breaking PSR in seven seasons as part of the case presented by the top-flight.
City strongly deny all charges and insist their case is supported by a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence”.
Premier League clubs will want 'serious sanction' for Man City, says Wyness
Wyness claimed the case is damaging for all of the other Premier League clubs.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s a difficult position to be in for the other clubs.
“You know this is damaging the Premier League, the competition you are a shareholder in.
“The clubs want to see justice done in some way, but the circus is going to damage every club in the top flight.
“I think the other sides will want a speedy resolution, which we might not get.
“These clubs will want justice to be seen to be done.
“If it’s a technicality and Man City get off, just like Leicester did, then they’ll be very angry.
“If Man City have cheated, then they'll want them to be penalised. As a CEO, I’d want a serious sanction.”
