Kyogo Furuhashi cited amid 'big' Man City claim - expert

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Kyogo Furuhashi would thrive at Man City alongside their top quality players if he leaves Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie backed Kyogo for a move to the English top flight next year if he maintains his impressive goalscoring record this term.

The 28-year-old joined Parkhead in 2021 after leaving J League side Vissel Kobe and since then has made 90 appearances for the Scottish club across all competitions, netting 58 goals in those outings.

This season the striker has already managed four goals and two assists in seven appearances.

Kyogo's current contract runs until 2027 after putting pen to paper on an extension earlier this summer.

McAvennie suggested that if the Japan international keeps up his red hot form he could be heading for the top of the Premier League next summer.

"People tell me that players could make it in England but I know it would never happen," he told Football Insider.

"They do not understand they think Scotland is the be all and end all. People talk about Kyogo, he is not ready for the Premier League.

Man City

"At lot of the teams there play one up front, Kyogo can't play that. If he went in to Man City he would be a great player.

"His movement is different class but I do not know if he would be ready because there are some big players down there. I think next year he might be ready if he keeps scoring goals."
