Lawrence Shankland responds on social media as star completes Rangers transfer

Rangers target Lawrence Shankland took to social media to congratulate Alex Lowry on his move from the Glasgow club to Wycombe Wanderers.

Football Insider revealed ahead of the January transfer window that Rangers retain an interest in the 29-year-old, who has just six months left on his contract at Hearts.

Shankland has struggled for Hearts so far this season, starting 25 of his 26 games across all competitions, scoring just three goals, and providing five assists in his 2235 minutes of action.

The striker had previously been prolific in front of goal over the last two seasons, scoring 28 across all competitions in 2022-23, and then 31 in 2023-24.

Football Insider also revealed on Monday (20 January) that Lowry, 21, was close to signing a permanent deal with Wycombe, and that was announced on Tuesday (21 January).

The midfielder’s contract at Ibrox was set to expire in the summer, and Philippe Clement's side opted to cash in on him this month.

Lowry had very limited opportunities at Rangers this season, making just three appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing zero assists in his 250 minutes of action.

The midfielder took to Instagram to bid farewell to his boyhood club, to which Shankland simply responded with: "I like you."

Rangers remain some way off arch-rivals Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premier League title, sitting in second, 13 points behind Brendan Rodgers' side.

Clement's attention will now be on Europe, however, as they travel south of the border to face Man United in a crucial Europa League on Thursday (January 23).
