Leeds United fans tear into Illan Meslier after the goalkeeper appeared to blame the pitch for his horrendous mistake in their 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Friday (October 4).

In the 97th minute Junior Firpo, 28, sent a lobbed pass back to the 24-year-old 'keeper but instead of calmly collecting it, Meslier decided to let it bounce.

The bounce seemed to catch him off guard and the ball trickled into the back of the Leeds goal, securing a valuable point for the home side in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

Visibly distraught, Meslier points to the ground, blaming the pitch for his monumental mistake before putting his hands on his hips and accepting what had just happened.

Leeds United fans not buying Illan Meslier excuses

Goals from Joel Piroe and Firpo gave Leeds the lead at the Stadium of Light after Chris Rigg's ninth-minute opener.

Daniel Farke's side climb up to third in the Championship table, but fans lament what could have been and remain uninterested in Meslier's excuses.
