Leeds fans celebrate Angus Kinnear exit to Everton news - 'Good riddance'

Leeds fans have begun celebrating the expected exit of chief executive Angus Kinnear as news emerges at Elland Road.

The 47-year-old has been with the Whites since 2017, joining after a four-year stint with West Ham following a decade with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

His wide range of experience has seen him keep his job with Leeds despite the recent takeover by the 49ers Enterprises in 2023, but there are set to be major changes moving forward now.

While Kinnear is not expected to leave Elland Road before the end of the current campaign, with Daniel Farke leading a charge for promotion back to the Premier League, talks could begin soon.

Everton to open talks with Angus Kinnear

According to the Daily Mail [26 February], The Friedkin Group and Everton are closing in on a deal for Kinnear to move to Merseyside as the new owners look to rebuild the Premier League club.

He is keen, however, to stay with Leeds during their quest to secure promotion back to the Premier League, with talks needed due to Kinnear's open-ended contract at Elland Road.

This could be just one of many changes affecting the landscape at Leeds in the coming months, with Paraag Marathe, alongside healthcare mogul Andrew Cavenagh, leading the San Francisco 49ers' takeover at Rangers.

Kinnear is clearly not the most-loved figure at Elland Road, having been brought into the club by Andrea Radrizzani, another controversial figure amongst the Leeds fanbase.

Leeds were left in an incredibly difficult position when relegated from the Premier League in 2023, with the fear of points deductions emerging due to the money spent on players and wages.

With Victor Orta and Radrizzani in the past, many supporters have seen Kinnear as the "last man standing" from that group of senior figures, with the Whites now getting rid of the "last of a bad bunch".

One fan asked if this season could "get any better", with Farke's side five points clear at the top of the Championship table, with another going as far as to call him a "fraud".

It is safe to say, not many will miss Kinnear once his move to Everton finally goes through at the end of the season.
