Leeds United fans took to Twitter to hail Ronaldo Vieira as a shining light in their team's 2-0 Championship defeat to Fulham on Tuesday night.

The United academy product, who stands at 6ft tall, was selected to play alongside Eunan O'Kane in central midfield for the second consecutive match.

O'Kane was withdrawn after 23 minutes through injury and Vieira, 19, was then paired with fellow home-grown youngster Kalvin Phillips in a partnership that was regularly used when Garry Monk was manager last season.

Leeds held their own for much of the match, but Fulham had 60 per cent of the possession and were decisive at the key moments.

Goals from Kevin McDonald and on-loan Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic kept alive the Cottagers' hopes of automatic promotion as they climbed to within five points of second-placed Cardiff City.

Leeds supporters were crushed by yet another defeat as their side slumped to 13th in the Championship table but they were encouraged by a return to form for young gun Vieira.
