Leeds United fans reacted with a mixture of pride and anger at Lewis Cook's England debut on Tuesday night.

The Elland Road academy product was given his first international cap in the national side's 1-1 draw against Italy at Wembley.

Cook, 21, was brought off the substitute bench after 71 minutes by manager Gareth Southgate as a replacement for Jesse Lingard in a match in which Lorenzo Insigne's late penalty cancelled out Jamie Vardy's goal.

Cook has earned international recognition after his impressive displays this season for Bournemouth, where he has established himself as a key player in central midfield.

The youngster joined the Cherries in the summer of 2016 for a fee of around £6million after making 85 appearances for Leeds, where he had nailed down a regular starting role at the age of 17.

United fans reacted strongly to his England debut, with one claiming it was "heartbreaking" he was still not at Elland Road an another revealing he was "immensely proud".
